THE IMPACT OF PICTURE SERIES ON WRITING SKILL AMONG JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL EFL LEARNERS AT THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 31 PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2022/2023

Abstract


This study aims to find out whether Picture Series can improve students' writing skill and also to find out the impact of using Picture Series on students' writing skill. This study used a quantitative research method with a pre-experiment design. The population of this study was the VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 31 Purworejo in the academic year 2022/2023 with a total of 187 students. The sample of this study was class VIII F consisting of 30 students. Data collection was conducted from February 2023 to March 2023. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and observation checklists. The pre-test mean score is 51.00, while the post-test mean score is 64.40. The result of the two-tailed significance value is 0.00. Being compared to the 5% (0.05) significance level, the computation shows that the two-tailed significance value is lower than the 5% significance level (0.00 < 0.05). Consequently, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In addition, the results of the questionnaire also showed that students had a good perception of the use of Picture Series in teaching writing skill. Therefore, the results of this study indicate that the use of Picture Series has a significant effect that has a positive impact on teaching writing skill to eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 31 Purworejo in the 2022/2023 academic year.
