BILINGUAL EDUCATION IN AL ADZKIYA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN WONOSOBO

Abstract


Al-Adzkiya is the first bilingual elementary school in Wonosobo that offers singular teaching for young learners in two languages, Indonesia and English. As a foreign language, English has become a challenge for non-native teachers and school in Indonesia, thus education on this language has become one of major concerns as well. This research focuses on what models of bilingual education are applied to help students to achieve adequate understanding primarily on English language. The project is conducted by focusing on students of 4th and 5th grades, teachers of those classes and lessons which involve bilingual teaching. The data gained through observations and interviews affirms how teachers and teaching methods applied help students to make progress in mastering English skills. The result of the research shows that grammartranslation method and desuggestopedia are two major teaching methods applied in order to create successful bilingual education in this school.
