Abstract

Lake Sidenreng was once the largest lake in Indonesia with a total area of 30 square miles. But over time, the lake shrank and then became smaller. Many surrounding communities rely on the existence of this lake. Unfortunately, this lake was introduced by broom species which greatly disturbed the economy of the community. Broom fish is not a type of fish native to Indonesian freshwater. This species was introduced from central America and South America. Broom fish, now has become a worrying threat not only to the diversity of natural fish, but also the economy of the community in the capture fisheries sector. This is due to the broom fish has a high adaptability, supported by its reproductive mechanism capable of surviving and even dominating public waters. Broom fish has not been used by many people because it has hard skin and makes it difficult to handle. To overcome the above, scientific studies need to be carried out in order to utilize broom fish meat so that it has economic value. The research aims to determine the effect of artificial feeding in the form of broom fish meal on the growth and survival of African catfish seeds. This research was carried out in the saloon building of the Pangkajene Fish Seed Hall in Tanete Village, Maritengngae District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The results of the study, the highest weight growth was obtained in treatment B (3.47 grams), then treatment A (1.63 grams), C (1.53 grams) and D (1.20 grams). Long growth is best obtained in treatment B (7.5 cm), followed by treatments A (6.1 cm), C (5.7 cm) and D (5.1 cm). While the best survival rate is also in treatment B (92%), then treatment A (85%), C (80%) and D (70% cm).
