THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CHARADES GAME IN TEACHING VOCABULARY TO THE THIRD GRADE STUDENTS OF SD MUHAMMADIYAH 1 PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2022/2023

Abstract


Charades game is one of the learning techniques in teaching vocabulary. A game technique in which words are expressed in the form of facial expressions or body movements (pantomimic). The aim of the research is to find out whether it is effective or not using charades game in teaching vocabulary to the third grade students of SD Muhammadiyah 1 Purworejo. This research was a quasi-experimental research. The research instrument was a multiple choice test consisting of 30 questions. The subject of the research were 16 students of III Khalid bin Walid and 16 students of III Abudzar Al-Ghifari. The data were analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group was 69.88. The mean score of the control group was 64.38. The finding of the research shows that the computation of the Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.00. It was lower than the significance level (0.00 < 0.05). It means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. The results of this research indicate that charades game is effective to improve students' vocabulary mastery.
