IMPLEMENTING TBLT (TASK-BASED LANGUAGE TEACHING) FOR THE INDONESIAN-ENGLISH TRANSLATION CLASS OF ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT’S STUDENTS

Abstract
The Indonesian-English Translation class can be utilized to provide the students of English Education
Department with the knowledge and skills to teach English in lower and upper secondary schools in the
future. Such knowledge and skills can facilitate their students whose L1 are Indonesian to learn English
more enjoyably without violating the principles of CLT (Communicative Language Teaching). This
paper, which is research-based one, is mainly to answer the problem of how to provide the Indonesian-
English translation class with the materials which can be useful for the students of English Education
Department in teaching English in the future.
This research employed mixed methods. The first step was to obtain the bilingual essays written
by students. Then, such essays were improved structurally. After that, they are discussed with a NET
(Native English Teacher). By applying the principles of TBLT (Task-Based Language Teaching), the
comparison between the revision done by the NET and the students’ original essay were modified into the
materials of Indonesian-English Translation.
Based on the result of the research it was proved that the arrangement of the materials can be
done systematically, the learning-teaching activities in the Indonesian-English translation class can be
conducted communicatively, and by using the materials which apply the principles of TBLT such class
can be performed humanisticaly.
