TEACHING CHILDREN IN THE INTERCONNECTED WORLD

Trevor Campbell Cooke

Abstract

Globalization has presented English teachers the world over with many unique advantages and curious challenges. The presentation will focus on my past two years of teaching in Indonesia to a multitude of learners of varying abilities. From young learners through to working professionals seeking to broaden their careers on an international level.
It is well documented that children nowadays have shorter attention spans and require multiple avenues and layers of English language learning. I will discuss the strategies I employ to enage children with the main aim of promoting conversation through the use of technology, pop culture, and other methods. It has been a most effective approach and has resulted in learners being able to successfuly discuss a variety of cultural intersections.
