ANALISIS KELAYAKAN EKOLOGI BUDIDAYA TAMBAK UDANG DALAM RANGKA MENINGKATKAN KETAHANAN PANGAN DI KABUPATEN PURWOREJO

Abstract


Coastal area in Purworejo regency is able to be developed into brackishwater pond for shrimp production. This study was to analyze the ecological feasibility of shrimp cultivation, specifically to tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and vannamei (Litopenaeus vannamei). The location of observation are coastal village, there were Jogoboyo, Karanganyar, Gedangan, Jatikontal and Jatimalang. The study evaluated were aquatic biota (phyto and zooplankton), water physical, water chemical, soil physical and soil chemical. The climatological data collected were rainfall, wind direction and air temperature. Vegetation analysis was conducted to understand the vegetation structures of the study sites. This study concluded that three locations of five are suitable for shrimp pond cultivation, both for tiger shrimp and vannamei, wich are Karanganyar, Gedangan and Jatikontal. While Jatimalang and Jogoboyo are not suitable for both shrimp species due to salinity, acidity and alkalinity value were very low, aside nitrite, hydrogen sulfide were higher than threshold values for both shrimp species. These areas may encrease arable land, local government income and also may able to empower local employment. The indirect benefit will be obtained by the local society are able to increase frequency of transportation and economic facilities, such as market and fish auction place.
