TEACHING INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTICS THROUGH SIMPLE PECHAKUCHA PRESENTATION
Abstract
This paper is aimed to provide brief and practical information of using PechaKucha presentation in
teaching Introduction to Linguistics to students of English Department, Faculty of Humanities,
Jenderal Soedirman University. Teaching Introduction to Linguistics is a big challenge since it is
not that easy to present a lot of preliminary materials in a 14-week program. Beside, in dealing with
adult learners, giving an oral presentation within 90 minutes without an interesting way may end in
serious boredom. Here, combined with a class discussion, PechaKucha presentation tries to
overcome that classic problem. This model of presentation is quite simple in which 20 slides are
shown for 20 second each making the time duration of 6 minutes and 40 seconds in total. This
method surely makes the class presentation concise and fast-paced. It also needs a meticulous and
technical preparation yet, it is attention-grabbing.
