Abstract

ABSTRACT
For many EFL students, learning to write in English is a difficult and challenging task. Few EFL students
have much experience writing in English. Therefore, many students face many difficulties in their
writing. There are, of course, many possible causes why a student may experience difficulty learning to
write. Some of the problems may be due to factors intrinsic to the student, while others are due to outside
influences. The factors intrinsic to the learner are such as affective response to failure, motivation, anxiety
over expression, and other emotional factors. EFL students’ native language literacy backgrounds and
experiences are also very important in the development of their writing. The outside influences, teaching
method is one of the most powerful. Besides that, there are potential causes of learning problems in
English writing such as time allocated for learning, language ability, phonological awareness, and social
or cultural disadvantage.
