Abstract


In this internet era, Non Native English Teachers (NNETs) have the duty not only to teachEnglish for Indonesian learners but also to globalize the Indonesian local wisdom. It is becauseevery nation has the responsibility to participate in the human civilization progress in the world.The attempt to do so can be started from the English classes held in English EducationDepartment study program in which the prospective NNETs are educated before being certifiedto teach in the lower and upper secondary schools. One of the subjects available which arepotential to realize such an attempt is Indonesian-English translation. Furthermore, theIndonesian-English Translation class held by applying Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT)is the promising choice. This paper is written based on the research conducted in EnglishEducation study program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. The research dealt withwhether or not the Indonesian-English Translation class applying Task-Based LanguageTeaching(TBLT) is effective to develop students’ translation skill. The research findingsresulted, among others, that such a translation class was effective not only to develop students’translation skill but also to promote the local wisdom belonging to students. The products of sucha research were both the model of Indonesian-English Translation teaching and its course book
